The Nanshan Aluminum Technologies plant located in Lafayette, IN is one of the first Greenfield aluminum plants to be constructed in the last 40 years. Huston Electric teamed with Nanshan and configured the entire design/ build process for the plant’s 15KV infrastructure, power distribution, and lighting system. Huston provided all of the electrical work, notification system, site lighting, telecommunication network and NEC phone systems, site and building signage, Ingersoll Rand air compressors, bus duct systems, SMART Interactive White Boards, video surveillance system, and emergency power generator. Huston also worked closely with manufacturers in the installation of the overhead cranes, dock levellers, mechanical lab, die machine shop, heat treat ovens, packaging systems, extrusion presses, and handling systems. All systems installed were tested efficiently by Huston Electric to make sure they surpass all energy consumption codes. Huston Electric also provided an entire Arc Flash study for the plant, as well as installing light curtains and area scanners to ensure the highest level of safety is achieved. This facility is state-of-the-art and will be looked to as the new reference in this industry for efficiency and emissions. The cast house’s emissions equal to 1% of other facilities of its type. Completion of this project was achieved in 2013 and the plant is now fully operational.
Installation
Huston Lafayette / West Lafayette provided the design and install for all of the 15KV infrastructure, the power distribution and the plant lighting system which delivers 65 foot candles throughout and exceedsthe requirements of the current energy code. Safety and Performance
Huston Lafayette / West Lafayette provided a complete arc flash study for the facility providing Nanshan maintenance and production personnel with the highest level of safety possible, as well as a network of safety systems including light curtains and area scanners to protect Nanshan’s workers from being injured by automated machinery.
